INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY ‘25

ACCELERATE ACTION | A worldwide call to recognise strategies, resources, and activities that advance women and support their implementation.

In partnership with Manchester Women's Aid and The Pankhurst Trust

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF WOMEN’S AID

This year marks 50 years since Women’s Aid Federation England was founded - half a century of fighting for change.

But despite the progress made since 1974, far too many women & children continue to live in fear, their reality still overshadowed by abuse.

Women’s Aid has made a promise—to stand by women and children until they are safe from domestic abuse. They are working tirelessly to build a stronger, more inclusive future—one where every survivor, no matter the obstacles they face, receives the support they need,
when they need it.

MORE THAN JUST A PIE

In support of International Women’s Day, Medlock Canteen will be donating every penny from Ruby’s deep-fried pie and staff dinner on Saturday 8 March, to Manchester Women’s Aid and The Pankhurst Trust.

For many women, escaping abuse is only the first step. Just two deep-fried pies could help pay for a weekly tutor session for a child waiting for a new school place. Five pies could help pay for a personalised welcome box and only ten pies could help pay for a wellbeing activity in refuge or run the referral line for a whole day.

A LITTLE MORE

The Pankhurst Trust (incorporating Manchester Women’s Aid) is at the heart of the fight against domestic abuse in Greater Manchester & the proud guardian of 62 Nelson Street, where the suffragette movement began.

Every year, they support over 2,000 adults and children through refuge accommodation, outreach, group work, counselling, & drop-in services - because escaping abuse is just the first step.

Their museum, The Pankhurst Centre, is open Thursdays and Sundays and stands as the only museum dedicated to telling the suffragette story. Through the legacy of the Pankhurst family, they continue to inspire the next generation of activists & push for real gender equality.

"In the last ten years alone, our work has impacted the lives of over 30,000 adults and children helping them live a life free from domestic abuse"
